Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 August 2026

This policy explains how BriefMe (ABN 19 947 396 404), an Australian sole trader business, collects, uses, holds and shares your personal information. We have written it to align with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). By using BriefMe, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us:

  • your name and email address;
  • your password, which is stored in a hashed form (we cannot see it);
  • if you sign in with Google, your name and email address from your Google account;
  • your first and last name and your university, if you provide them through the optional onboarding step after purchase;
  • your purchase and access (entitlement) records.

Information we collect automatically:

  • usage and analytics data about how you use the site, and device and approximate location information, including your IP address;
  • a first-party cookie (bm_via) that records the channel you first arrived through, so we can understand how people find us.

We do not collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act).

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • create and secure your account and sign you in;
  • deliver the materials you have bought and manage your access;
  • process your payment;
  • respond to your enquiries and provide support;
  • understand and improve the product;
  • meet our legal obligations.

3. Who we share it with

We use trusted service providers to run BriefMe, and share only the information they need to provide their service to us:

  • Supabase: authentication and database. Your account data is stored in a database hosted in Sydney, Australia.
  • Google: sign-in, if you choose to use it.
  • Stripe: payment processing.
  • Vercel: website hosting, delivery and anonymised analytics.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to train artificial-intelligence models. We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights.

4. Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are handled on its secure, PCI-DSS certified systems. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only details such as your name, email and a record that a payment succeeded. Stripe handles your payment information under its own privacy terms.

5. Sending information overseas

Your account data is stored in Australia (Supabase, Sydney). Some of our providers process data overseas, so your information may be handled in the United States (Google, Stripe and Vercel). These are established providers, each subject to its own privacy and data-protection terms that govern how it handles your information.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of cookies. The bm_via cookie is a first-party cookie that records the channel you first arrived through. Our analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) set no cookies: they count page views and referrers in anonymised form and cannot identify you across visits. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as well without them.

7. Email

We send you service emails related to your account and purchases, such as sign-in, confirmation and receipt emails. We do not currently send marketing email. If we introduce it, we will only send it to you with your consent, and every marketing email will identify us and include a working unsubscribe link.

8. How we keep your information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including storing passwords in hashed form, using reputable service providers, and serving the site over encrypted connections. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. How long we keep it

We keep your account and purchase information for as long as you have an account with us, and for as long afterwards as we need it to meet legal, accounting or record-keeping obligations. When we no longer need it, we delete it or de-identify it.

10. Accessing, correcting and deleting your information

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to close your account, by emailing hello@briefme.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable time.

11. Children

BriefMe is intended for adult law students and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

12. Users outside Australia

BriefMe is intended for users in Australia. If you use it from elsewhere, your information will be processed in Australia and overseas as described in this policy. If you would like to access or delete your information, contact us at the email above.

13. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, email us at hello@briefme.com.au and we will work with you to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available here, with the “last updated” date at the top. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
